Mary Gertrude "Trudy" Hamilton, 100, of Dauphin, MB Canada died on May 29, 2026.
Trudy was born on June 4, 1925, in Brown's Town, St. Ann, Jamaica to Wilbert Wilson and Una (Jeffrey-Smith) Wilson. She was the youngest of six siblings: Phyllis, Jeffrey, Beth (Jacobs), Leslie and Floretta (Delfosse). She attended London University and spent an additional year at the LSE. She later completed a degree in History & Sociology at the University of the West Indies.
She worked as a psychiatric social worker in London UK. On her return to Jamaica, she worked for the University of the West Indies for 34 years. She conducted research at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She worked for the Department of Extra-Mural Studies in Jamaica, Grenada and The Bahamas. Trudy was a remarkable administrator and a keen academic.
Canada was her fifth country of residence. On her retirement she moved to Brandon, MB, where she lived for 33 years. In 2023 she moved to Dauphin to be with her immediate family.
Her belief in the social gospel and sense of community informed her kindness, volunteer work and outreach. A wide circle of friends attests to her constancy, generosity and sense of humour. Over the years, physical activity included tennis, yoga, swimming, tai chi, and the gym. She loved reading, travel, current affairs, classical music, opera, theatre, ballet and contemporary dance.
